After a very cold winter period, where fishing was understandably much slower, the summer fishing is in full swing. Both day ticket anglers and resisdents are regularly getting amongst the fish, and both lakes are regularly producing great bags of fish to a variety of methods. Roach fishing continues to be excellent using either pole or waggler tactics. Likewise, bream can be tempted using the same approach or feeder fishing either midway across the main lake or to the far margin. Top baits are corn and maggots, although larger baits will see you in with a better chance of getting amongst the larger fish. The carp have really woken up now and can be caught using a variety of tactics, with the average stamp of fish in the 6-10 lb bracket. Again, the far margin is a sure bet for regular bites, although fishing tight down the margins either first thing in the morning or late on in the evening can produce fish. Floater fishing can also be prolific in the right conditions, with a local angler (sorry, no name) recently taking nine fish between 5 and 12lb in 4 hour evening session. The small lake continues to be as consistent as ever, with anglers reporting multiple catches of bream, roach and small carp up to 12 oz. This is a great lake to teach youngsters or those new to angling. In fact, this was just the case for young Sion Connah, aged 4, who showed us all how it was done by catching 12 fish on corn and waggler tactics. Great angling young man!
